Lindy Hop Basics and Fundamentals (6-Count)
Amanda Gruhl & Edgar Herwick
Whether you are brand-new to swing dancing or would like to refine your Lindy Hop technique, this is the class for you. In these four sessions, we'll focus on basic 6-count Lindy Hop moves for the brand-new dancers, but we'll concentrate on good technique and connection so there is always something for more experienced swing dancers, too. This class is one step in our two-step beginner track. Both the 6-Count and 8-Count Lindy Hop Basics and Fundamentals Classes are pre-requisites for our advanced beginner classes. Either beginner class may be taken first.

what's this?
Badass Charleston II
Alex Abdoulaev & Liz Markle
This is the second of a two part intermediate/advanced series. To take this class you will have to have taken part I or get permission from an instructor. If you have not auditioned for and been accepted to the intermediate level, contact an instructor to schedule an audition or email us at info@newschoolswing.com. In this class we'll be doing the following:
  1. Taking the charleston basics you learned and making them amazing! This includes side-by-side, tandem, and face-to-face positions, and making them dynamic, clear, socially lead-and-folowed, and generally awesome.
  2. Learning new complex combinations involving charleston, which will challenge your lead/follow skills and stretch your solo movement and athleticism!
  3. Via charleston, developing comfort and playfulness in dancing to faster music.
  4. Learning a routine (maybe to be performed if people want to) which incorporates these techniques/moves and will help you integrate them smoothly into your social dancing.
This class will culminate in a partnered-charleston performance, date TBD.

Intermediate Spins & Turns and Body Awareness
Natalya Gomez & Shawn Hershey
Natalya brings here considerable talent as an amazing Lindy Hopper and Ballet dancer to help us get in tune with our center and become more balanced and poised. She will teach us some techniques and exercises to make us more comfortable with ourselves and give us more confidence on the dance floor. The classes will cover solo spins & turns exercises helpful for both leads and follows and work on applying spins and turns to partner dancing. Follows will learn to keep their balance and the momentum provided by their leads. Leads will learn to spin their partners and throw in some fancy spins for themselves too.
